lyrics

Empress Blue music and lyrics G. Scott MacLeod

Designed by Chaussé in 27’
Deco Egyptian atmospheric connection
Bas relief from the tomb of Tut
Vaudville, burlesque is not enough

CHORUS
Will the Empress rise again?
To bring back Our Lady of Grace’s friends

Packed so tight on opening night Sherbrooke street cars
Tux and cigars
Many turned away, from the first-run films,
J.J. Goulet and Jerry Lear’s girls.
The ‘talkie’ replaced the motion picture
The death knell for Vaudville théâtre

CHORUS

No more J.E. Lyall
Frank Hamilton and Company
But now it’s the home of the ‘Blue Movie’
Our parents dinned dinner theatre in 62’
When it was the Royal Follies
With a classic The Tea Room
I knew her well as Cinema V
A rep theatre in 85’
She closed 92’ under the flame
The Empress will never be the same

CHORUS
